COLLABORATION: SUGARSKY + PNW OUTDOOR WOMEN + AMANDA SANDLIN
FRIENDS! This is too good not to share! The ladies over at PNW Outdoor Women (check them outttttt at @pnwoutdoorwomen) reached out to us and were looking for a custom product that could be created exclusively for their group of rad women. The best part? They wanted a chunk of the proceeds to be donated to the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC).
We were (and still are, frankly) SO excited.
Having the opportunity to create something for such a group of passionate, adventurous women who are striving to make a difference is something that so heavily aligns with our mission and our hearts. Needless-to-say, moving forward with this project was a huge 'YES' from our team and we were so thankful that the wonderful leaders over at PNW Outdoor Women chose SugarSky for this project.
We quickly jumped into the design phase and reached out to the VERY talented Amanda Sandlin (@amandsandlin) to help us design something custom & super rad. If you haven't checked out her artwork (here!), you're in for a treat. If you're like me, go ahead and add like 8 pieces to your 2018 Christmas gift list. She's INCREDIBLY talented and a fellow outdoorswomen who shares the vision of encouraging + empowering through the outdoors.
We checked in with Amanda:
"When Skyler from SugarSky asked if I wanted to design a custom headband for the Pacific Northwest Outdoor Women's group, I jumped at the opportunity. As a member of Front Range Outdoor Women, I wholly believe in what Outdoor Women’s Alliance does — bringing women together to learn from and lift one other up through experiences in the wild.
Last year I lived in my ‘97 Toyota Previa and traveled all around North America, but my favorite place was the Pacific Northwest. I spent quite a few months there, waking up to boats crossing bays and fog rising from redwood forests. As an artist and photographer, those moody landscapes and weather patterns interest me more than any bluebird day.
I loved both elements of the PNW Outdoor Women’s current logo — a flowering lupine and feather — so I illustrated them in my style of minimal, hand-drawn lines. We went through a few drafts with more vibrant, pastel/colorful variations, but ultimately I think the simplicity of the charcoal gray with white captures the PNW's spirit best."
and IT TURNED OUT BEAUTIFULLY! :
After design was complete, it was time for us to do our thing (printing, cutting, sewing, etc.).
...and, DRUMMMM ROLLLLLL!
Here are the finished products:
Again, we are so thankful that we were able to work with such rad babes (Amanda + Amanda, JJ, and Meghan - and others) on this custom project. It means the world that the ladies over at PNW Outdoor Women could have gone a different route, but chose to support our local production, handmade in the USA small business for this project.
