We want to introduce you to the most-talented, lovely lady that just joined the SugarSky crew - Miss Reba Jenson. She joined us several months back as our photographer and we are continually amazed at the work she produces. Seriously, sometimes I ask myself - how many ways can you shoot a headband? but she amazes us every.single.time. We love her heart for the Lord, her absolute passion for photography and her gusto for life.
Read more about her below AND follow her on Insta. She's amazing.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I’m from Allen, TX a suburb about 30 minutes outside of Dallas for a more general location. Most people know us for our ridiculously large high school stadium and equally large band.
WHERE DO YOU CURRENTLY LIVE?
I currently live in San Marcos, TX where I attend Texas State University. It’s probably one of my favorite places in the world.
WHAT DOES YOUR EVERYDAY LOOK LIKE?
My everyday usually depends on the day. I have to-do lists out the wazzoo so I can accomplish what I need to, but the most common occurrences are fulfilling the love meter for my attention needy dog Parker, trying to make time to read a book, devotionals, driving around while listening to music, and thinking about how everything looks like a photograph.
IF YOU HAD 15 SECONDS IN AN ELEVATOR TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF TO SOMEONE, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
That’s like the hardest question hahah, but honestly I’d probably say I’m a photographer who loves God, surrounds myself with books, and can’t really stay in one place for too long or I feel trapped. Also that I have a fraternal twin sister.
WHAT IS A MUST-HAVE FOR YOU TO FEEL SUCCESSFUL DURING A WORK DAY (OR PHOTOSHOOT)?
Really that I have an idea in mind for the shoot and I go into the situation feeling positive and excited for the outcome. Usually if I go into a shoot with a negative feeling, it’ll turn out bad. My favorite feeling ever is seeing a picture turn out how I wanted or even better on the back of my camera, it makes me absolutely giddy with joy. Something I’m constantly saying on a shoot is, “oh my god I can’t wait to edit these, they’re perfect.” It’s all about that positivity in yourself and your skills y’know. Even if I get a bit downtrodden about it all sometimes, in the moment of a shoot I’m happiest.
.....can we say, BOSS?!
HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY/HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING?
I got into photography by constantly taking my sisters point and shoot and using it for myself and realizing, “hey this is a really nifty thing, capturing what I am actually seeing.” Finally, around 8th grade I saved up enough money to get my own and I’ve never stopped. It’s been a wild 8 years and seeing my progression is crazy thing to look back on too.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF PHOTOGRAPHY?
Probably being able to display to everyone what I see. “How can I turn this situation into a photograph?” is a constant thought in my head. I’ve been told, and I’m pretty sure any good photographer has been told too since it’s a part of the job, that I see the world differently and capture it in a most people can’t. When you see one of my photographs that is what I saw in the moment. You’re seeing what I literally saw and then the mood and feeling as I processed it in my head. I love editing too because it allows me to express much more since I’m a tetrachromat and can see colors that most humans do not. I think I’m always striving to accomplish that in a way. | | One of my favorite comments I’ve gotten is from my dad when we went on a trip to Israel. He said to a friend, “When I looked at the photographs she took it was like she had been on a completely different trip than the rest of us.”
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST DREAM/GOAL IN LIFE?
Right now it’s pretty simple and that’s just to be able to do what I love on a daily basis which is reading, photographing, laying in a hammock, and trying to cuddle with my dog. I really just want to be content with life and myself and what the Lord has given me. Traveling the world constantly wouldn’t be a bad deal either, but I think I can live with road tripping around the US as well. || I secretly want to be a hermit though also and want to buy a cabin in the woods where I can photograph the little things in nature, read, and have my dog trot around with me. I really just want a simple but fulfilling life on my terms. My aunt once said, “There are a lot of different oaths to peace and contentment and we each need to find our own.”
WHAT IS ONE-THING YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
I’m going to cheat and say two things because they’re on an equal level. And I feel like it’s pretty obvious, but my dog and my camera hahah.
WHAT IS YOUR PET PEEVE?
Hmm I kind of had to think about this for a moment because I consider pet peeves like the ultimate I can’t stand people doing this ordeal rather than a minor annoyance. It’s probably when people think they’re better than others for some reason or another because they think the way they live life is better than how others live theirs for one thing or another. Again people are content in a multitude of different ways and the world is vast and everyone is unique in some certain way. And as long as they’re not harming anyone or themselves, just let ‘em live man, just let ‘em live.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT SUGARSKY?
What I like about SugarSky are many many things. First and foremost, how customer focused, rooted in the Lord, and Skyler’s empowerment for every person who comes into contact with the company and genuine want to encourage and lift them as well. What I personally love is the absolute love and support I’ve gotten from day 1 of interacting with Skyler. I’d never really thought anyone would actually contact me for something like this and the moment she did I felt an immediate push from God to follow through and pursue it and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in 2016 for sure. From constant love and feedback, to asking if I have any prayer requests for the struggles in my life I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better relationship with the company.
Reebs - we are stoked to have you as part of our team and can't wait for us to grow with you and for you to grow with us! Much love to you, sister!
